The worship service is known by an inviting community that seeks to follow Christ and love people. The Branch is a great place to come if you do not have a church home or have never been to church before. It is open for people of all ages, backgrounds, races, and stages in the faith.   You will find vibrant music led by our praise band, food that helps to form a sense of community, and engaging messages that are Biblical and relevant today.

Med’s appointment at Griffin First United Methodist Church began on June 23, 2013.

Med was born in Griffin, Georgia on June 23rd, 1952.  His father was an educator in Hampton. For the first 13 years of his life he was often in Griffin with his parents. Then his father took the position as principal of Stone Mountain High School in DeKalb Co.  It was there that he met and eventually married his high school sweetheart, Susan, who is a Math Instructional Coach.  They have been married for 40 years and have two adult children: Bonny Skutch of Bay St. Louis, MS, and Tyler Roach of Athens, GA, both of whom are teachers.  They have two grandchildren: Drew, who is 8 years old, and Charlotte, who is 4 years old.

Med earned his Bachelor’s degree at Mercer University/Atlanta campus.  He received his Master of Divinity at Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He accomplished his Doctorate of Ministry at McCormick Seminary at the University of Chicago.

Med has served in ministry in 7 churches.  He began as Youth Director at Stone Mountain UMC for 6 years.  He served his first appointed church here in the Griffin District at Stark UMC in Jackson for 6 years. Then he was appointed to and served 6 years at St. Paul UMC, Marietta, followed by 6 years at Dahlonega UMC, then 8 years at Acworth FUMC, and most recently 8 years at Newnan FUMC.
