  • Jeremiah Bible StudyJeremiah Bible Study - 9/25/2018 - 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM  Jeremiah: Daring to Hope in an Unstable World   Women are experts when it comes to worry, fear, and doubt.  Unsettled times in our world – our neighborhoods – certainly don’t help matters.  Jeremiah also lived in an unstable time when he was called to share God’s message of mercy and love.  His words are just as relevant to us as they were to the wayward people of his time.  This twelve-week study, designed specifically to address the challenges and circumstances of today’s woman, features a DVD segment for each week’s class.  The accompanying materials not only help you explore the meaning of Jeremiah’s message, they provide practical life applications you can use to start experiencing intentional living now! Led by Debby Stikes.  It will begin Tuesday, August 21, and end November 6. (10:00 a.m., Conference Room)  A $12 donation would be accepted. Get your book ahead of time.

His class, MOJO Fitness, meets every Monday and Wednesday at 8:30am and every Tuesday and Thursday at 10:15am. MOJO Fitness is a cardio/weight training class and is adaptable to any fitness level.  Class is $5.00.  Joey is also available for one-on-one personal training sessions.

  • Numbers Study: Learning Contentment in a Culture of MoreNumbers Study: Learning Contentment in a Culture of More - 9/25/2018 - 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM  Numbers: Learning Contentment in a Culture of More   Something in us aches for more, and our culture offers us many suggestions.  If we just had a bigger house, a better friend, a faster phone, or more stuff, then we could be content.  Yet even as we attain these things we find ourselves comparing and complaining without getting any closer to filling the ache inside.  But there’s good news!  The Bible tells us that we can learn to be content.  In this twelve-week Bible study we see ourselves in the story of the Israelites as they wandered in the wilderness.  This study will begin on Wednesday, August 22, and will end on Wednesday, November 7.  Led by Laurie Karam (6:30 p.m., Seekers Sunday School class) A donation of $12 would be accepted. You may get your book ahead of time or pick it up at the first meeting.

Carter McInnis, Senior Minister

Rev. Dr. Carter McInnis was appointed as Senior Pastor of Griffin First United Methodist Church in June 2018. He and his wife, Emily, have four sons, Morgan, Tanner, Walker & Brooks.

Carter grew up in church in South Carolina, but has lived in Georgia since 1995. He loves Jesus and people. Carter has a passion to reach people that are far from God with the love of Jesus and help Christians to become deeply devoted disciples of Christ. He wants to change the way people think about church and help connect people to Jesus. Carter worked in youth ministry for a number of years as an Intern at his home church, Calvary Baptist Church, in Williamston, SC and Noah’s Ark Beach Ministry in Panama City Beach, FL. He also served as Pastor of Rutledge & Pennington United Methodist Churches in Morgan County, GA and Associate Pastor at First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, GA. In 2005, Carter became the Founding and Lead Pastor of THE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH OF THE WAY, later merging to form Harmony Grove UMC of the Way in 2015, and re-launching as BARROW COMMUNITY CHURCH in 2017.

Carter received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from the University of Georgia with a focus in Broadcast News in 2000, his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta in 2003 and his Doctorate of Ministry in Church Leadership Excellence at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. in 2016. He is an Ordained Elder in the North Georgia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Outside the church, Carter served as a Founding Board Member for Family Promise of Gwinnett County, a ministry to homeless families. He served as Character Coach for Archer Football in 2013-2014. He also taught The Bible Class through the Archer Christian Learning Center through Core Foundations. Carter enjoys running, reading, woodwork, good coffee, spending time with his wife and playing with his boys. He is part of the Georgia Football Lettermen’s Club and an is an avid fan of the Dawgs and College Football in general.
